There are two main types of wood decking used in Michigan. Treated Lumber Decking and Cedar Lumber Decking. Both have their pros and cons.
Treated Lumber Deck Builder
Treated Lumber is very economical and long lasting. With regular maintenance a new treated lumber deck can last up to 30 years. While treated lumber is not initially as attractive as cedar lumber, it can be stained to match your decor. While composite decking is becoming ever more popular in Michigan, we still build more decks using treated lumber than other materials.
Cedar Lumber Deck Builder
Cedar Lumber has a natural and rustic red beauty that is warm and inviting. It isn’t as susceptible to warping, twisting, or shrinking like treated lumber, but it does require more maintenance. With proper routine maintenance, cedar decking can last 15 years. A cedar deck will require the most maintenance of any other material.
